Verne is one of the three main characters of the show, along with Gus and Cassy, who uses UBoS to travel to center of the Earth to stop Zarlak, a evil dark wizard.

Series[]

Verne is a mortal, but he displays magical powers and can actually mend electronic devices. Because of his mortal status, he is called a "Mortie". At some points, he is quite cowardly and is surprised by almost anything that involves magic.

He is quite skilled at Techno Magic which is good for putting ordinary electronics and/or mechanical devices together to make all sorts of useful gadgets. At times, he will mess up a spell that does not involve Techno Magic, often with embarrassing results. He came to the school on a scholarship, at first initially repulsed by the idea of magic and wanting nothing to do with it. He shares a room with Gus. It is later discovered that he is a descendant of the great wizard Merlin because of the sparkle in their eyes and their last names being the same. Verne is given the symbol of three wands united by Cassy later on in the series.

Verne seems to like clowns as he is quite amused to learn how to turn into a clown. At first Verne dislikes the scootsoomers and anything to do with magic.

Verne often acts as the viewpoint protagonist as the audience surrogate; he experiences things that are as new to him as they are new to the audience watching, and both learn of the show's world together.

Appearance[]

Verne is a young redheaded boy who is short and has blue eyes.

Relationships[]

Cassy[]

He quickly becomes good friends with Cassy. Even sees her as a love interest as they kiss at certain points in the cartoon.

Early on while he is still confused and frightened by magic Cassy and Gus treat him like the “younger brother” of the group because of his naivety and inexperience as well as that he his shorter and possibly younger than them. However he dislikes this coddling and has a tendency to wander off on his own.

Gus[]

They are friends but also have a bit of a rivalry as Gus tends to snark and joke around Verne, poking fun at his expense, especially early on when he’d cause magical mishaps. Plus, he has some prejudice towards mortals.

Sometimes, his ears wiggle.

Prince Erbert[]

He doesn’t get off to a good start with Verne because he crashed on top of him the first time they met.

UBoS[]

He is the mentor for the trio, as well as their primary means of transportation to other places and realms. He advises them, but seems to know a lot more about them than they know about themselves. However, he prefers them to figure things out on their own before explaining it to them.

When he scolds Verne, Cassy and Gus he clonks them on the head with himself.

Miss Crystalgazer[]

One of Verne’s professors and the headmistress of Vonderland. She does her best to make him feel welcome on his first day and instructs Cassy and Gus to look after him.

Lucrezia and Borge[]

The twins like to pick on him. Plus they secretly support Zarlak like their father. Their pranks are anything but light-hearted. They can be really nasty when they want to prank someone.
